You know the last time there was this much climate change in a short period it led to mass extinction that killed 97 percent of all life on Earth Meanwhile, the Trump administration’s official response to all of it as yet they’re actually pushing for more environmental deregulation Why because they’re protecting the interests of a very small group of absurdly rich and powerful people according to the Guardian 71 percent of global carbon emissions stem from just 100 corporations. That’s it Just 100 giant billionaire businesses that fill the right pockets to get the devil’s job done Our only chance for survival is an about-face Investing in renewable energy, which would not only save the planet but create an incredible boom in jobs, you know California incentivize clean energy and as a result now has eight and a half green jobs for every one job in fossil fuels Yet the Trump administration is actually suing to stop them Please follow the money on that one So should we all just assume we’re truly and properly I mean, yes Sorry It’s just it would be disingenuous to sugarcoat it at the same time we cannot give up because fighting their nihilism with more nihilism is what they’re banking on if we don’t fight these 100 corporations they get their money and we get to die and the disgusting irony of it of All of it is that the billionaires who have created this global atrocity are going to be the ones to survive it They’re gonna be fine. Well, we all cooked to death in a planet-sized hot car. They will be safe in their Martian biodome stuffing robot sex slaves in their penthouse suite

As a species, we are headed for a massive dieback. What the1% don't realize is how fragile their world really is, and if the economic system goes down as a result of environmental cataclysm, all their wealth (which is just ones and zeros at this point) will go with it.

As long as government policies emphasize growing GDP as a national priority, and as long as transnational corporations relentlessly pursue greater shareholder returns by ransacking the earth, we will continue accelerating toward global catastrophe.
We must stand up and demand an economic system that takes humans, the planet and living systems into account. It is no longer a luxury, it is a now a matter of life or death for humanity..

Our current immature and insane economic system (with its mantras of 'Growth is God' and 'Profit above all else’) sees things like pollution and disruption of earth's life supporting systems as "externalities" and simply doesn't take them into account…

In other words, Big Business (and especially Big Oil) know that they create these effects but just pretend that it doesn’t really matter and that it’s less important than profits..

Our entire globalized economic system is directed toward the accumulation of private profit and completely ignores the viability of the ecosphere of our planet that supports and promotes the flourishing of life.

It violates the basic ecological principles that must be adopted by humanity in the very near future if we want to have a future at all.

Ignoring the effects of our greedy actions on all living systems (including humanity), to the point that they can no longer support life.. that is the very definition of madness, isn't it?

This economic capitalist system is based on the cancerous, anti-ecological principle of endless growth on a finite planet. It spells doom for humanity, since ecological principles of delicate balance and interdependence fundamentally contradict capitalism’s iron law of profit above all else and exploiting everything till the last drop for the sake of insatiable “growth" and “value” for shareholders (regardless of consequences)

The requirement of the capitalist system (grow or die: increase profits or go under) functions in direct contradiction to the equilibrium principles of a living planet.

We are all going to pay a very very heavy price if we just keep on going as usual with this insane childish destructive system. This sort of economic mentality (and the psychological mindset from which it arose) just has to change or we're really doomed.

And it is up to us to demand that change.

We need to restructure the fundamentals of our cultural/economic system to cultivate an “ecological civilization”: one that prioritizes the health of living systems over short-term profits. If we don’t do that, we simply won’t survive.

If we want to keep having a viable environment in which to live then our society needs to change at a level far deeper than most people realize. It's not just a matter of investing in renewables, eating less meat and driving an electric car. The intrinsic framework of our global social and economic organization needs to transform, if we want to keep living on this planet.

they believe that the 'brown people' are gonna be socked. the brown people that still have chickens in their backyards and have neighbors who can dress a pig, as well as have pigs…. the brown people that live in areas with "lazy no good police" but that's because our (there you go) villages in rural SE Asia are self policing to the 99th degree. who is gonna suffer? well, as soon as a threshold breaks and Pascal's Wager is dumped upside down and inside out.. all of the armed forces of the great USA wouldn't even be able to keep a medium sized city like Dallas from ripping itself apart. rich don't mean smart. hell, even literate folks like Bill Gates still believe in Man's Technology… "Direct Air Capture". what a joke.

Not enough americans on that list, Syrian oil company? But not Texas oil? No fracking companies of North America. No fucking American war machine? No mountain scouring American coal companies? No american mining companies? No american logging companies? No american car industries? No mention that despite only being 4% of the populous they produce 30% of the worlds emission and pollution? All we need to stop climate change is to sanction and get rid of the real problem. America. An American child uses more energy and water than 300 African villagers. 40 times more than a Chinese adult! The world has a problem, it’s called the USA.

"Just 100 companies responsible for 71% of global emissions, study says." What emissions? CO2, methane, etc? On such a serious issue; throwing around statistics like this, gives anyone who doesn't believe in climate change ammunition to discredit the argument. Bill Gates is a billionaire. Passion is necessary, but so is intelligence when it comes to fighting this battle.

This is the question I've been asking for a long time and Bio Domes for the rich seems like a very silly answer to a global problem. Feel free to attack me and of course I could be 100% wrong.
About ten or more years ago scientists stated that climate change would would bring on some massive changes to our world. They said we would have massive droughts and people would flee their countries to anywhere there was livable conditions. Wars would start over water. That there would be massive fires because of the droughts. That would result in catastrophic slides when it does rain. We would have super storms, not just our annual hurricane's, Typhoon's. Millions would be affected by these super storms. Billions and Billions of dollars in damage, lost work, the Complete destruction of entire cities and towns. We now have millions of people living on or near the ocean. Where do you think all this staggering amount of toxic crap is ending up? In the ocean after more and more super storms. The water recedes, taking tons of toxic crap back into the oceans.
There's now plastic in everything. The scientific community warned us that this plastic would start to destroy the oceans on microscopic level. It is. That the oceans are warming. They are. The ocean is becoming more acidic so microorganisms can't reproduce to feed tiny organisms, which feed other larger creatures. Krill is dying off. Whales feed on that along with other sea creatures. Killer whales are starving to death. Otters are being eaten by killer whales….More and More toxic plankton blooms are occurring….They choke the life out of fish and mammals. We are having more and more..They warned us about this occurring because of a warming oceans, it's happening. We can't keep polluting the oceans and raping it, then expect to reap it's rewards.
I think the billionaire's don't care one bit. They will live a lavish life right up to the end. Some will survive a apocalyptic meltdown I'm sure, they simply don't care at all and they show that Everytime they remove another form of protection for the environment. They claim it's for You! Jobs! Ha! Go look how all the new factories are run… Robots! They don't need uneducated white trash to work for them anymore…Nope. A robot that's not going to call in sick, not get pregnant, not have sick kids, no car trouble…Nope. just work 24/7…no overtime, no Union's…
Keep drinking the kool- Aid Trump supporters…He's laughing all the way to his very real gold plated toilets. If he could put your face on it he would…

These vile, greedy bastards are condemning everyones' children and grandchildren to lives of misery. I am a world traveler, and this year I was scuba diving in Bonaire, Aqaba, the Maldives, the Great Barrier Reef, and Fiji. Everywhere I went diving the reefs were dying and degraded. It was truly heartbreaking, and at this rate my little granddaughter will be lucky to see a pristine reef in her life. Stephen Hawking was known to say that greed and stupidity would be man's undoing. This is truly coming to pass. Based on our behavior as a species in recent decades, I'm not so sure we deserve to survive.

I watched most of the list scroll by. It seemed to be the companies that pull the oil and coal out of the ground. They call themselves "producers", but the real word is, obviously, "extractors". Regardless, I think this might miss the point. The extractors extract relative to the demand. But the extractors do lobbying activities to keep demand high. That's where we need to hit them.

The majority of green house gas is caused by producing electricity. And the biggest users of electricity is refrigerators and aircons, there is 10 yr old tec compressors that use 25% of the electricity used by super cheap Chinese compressors and cost only a hundred dollars to the price tag of an appliance. A simple change in import laws would radically decrease the amount of electricity we use and reduce green house gas. But companies must be made to do this all together to avoid a price advantage.

You're a typical Brainwashed idiot! Global warmed ended 5 years ago Einstein! Go look it up!

If you raise plants in a controlled environment the more CO2 you add the more the plants thrive and the faster the plants grow AND.. the more oxygen they produce! It's not rocket science to figure out how stupid the left is! The whole climate hoax was created to rob and control the people of the whole planet and that is all it was designed to do!

Fact is the globalists "global warming" term has recently been changed to "climate change" because the earth has shifted (as it always has since its creation) and for the past 5 years it's been growing colder not warmer! And the top global scientists do not agree that climate change is caused by mankind, in fact they overwhelming agree that mankind has absolutely nothing at all to do with climate change!

They do agree the the earth has always gone through shifts of cold and warm spells, and tropical and ice ages, since the very beginning! and all completely natural occurrences! And the earth also goes through spells of catastrophic weather as well, earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, etc. and has done so since the very beginning! in fact entire towns, cities, and civilizations have been completely wiped out by them throughout history! If your smart enough to study it! Hey, but don't believe me, just ask any dinosaur!

Truth is top scientists who are not part of the corrupt fascist EU NWO globalist system all say there is no evidence that mankind has changed the climate at all, and fact is global warming does not exist in fact the planet has now been getting colder for the past 5 years, so now they have changed their story to climate change! These temporal swings are natural and have been going on since the planet was created! Earth has experienced an tropic age, an ice age, and if you don't believe that just ask any dinosaur! The global warming/climate change is all about global theft and that is all it really is! Truth is Co2 is required by plants to manufacture oxygen and higher level of C02 cause plants to thrive and produce even more oxygen! That's true science!

Stop investing in their companies (holy shit, they're in SO MUCH TROUBLE, the oil industry is one MASSIVE ponzi scheme) & there will come a point, where if you have any money invested in their shares, you will lose it. Instead, invest in intelligent, people & environmentally friendly companies, that are in competition with the old-fashioned fossil-fuel industries. Every bit of pressure we place on their wallets, is worth while. Find ways to subvert their power & undermine their shaky position. We will watch these businesses fail & eat themselves & all who support them.

I blame Big Energy (Oil and Coal) for most of the world's climate warming. They knew decades ago about the impact of burning fossil fuels and spent million$ on a massive cover up to make scientists seem like a bunch of alarmists and that global warming was a natural occurrence. Also, they teamed up with Big Auto to make sure all cars ran on gasoline rather than encourage electric vehicles. Unless EV are very expensive, the auto industry will lose a huge amount of business. And if houses start becoming self-sustainging via solar panels, how will oil and coal companies stay in business? And lastly, every decent, affordable mass transporation project ambitiously started on either coast has historically met with failure. You think they want any of us riding around by a cost effective means, think again.

Let’s not talk about "THEM" as though we are not connected to "THEM". We are the masses that have bought their products or used the energy from their oil or coal. WE need to take OUR responsibility in this too. We need to reduce our foot print, stop using one off plastics, seek out products that are repairable and not throw away after it breaks down (this will also create jobs) use and buy electric and not oil powered automobiles. (yes I know there are demons in electric but ATM it is the lesser of the two evils) WE need to demand cotton be replaced with Hemp which is a genuinely sustainable product……..and if "non-THC" hemp has not been legalized in your state, rally your governor and your state reps and get it legalized. WE need to NOT buy products that contain PALM OIL – which is encouraging poor Asian farmers to strip vast areas of forest for the western manufacturers to use in OUR products. WE must NOT buy from fast food outlets that source their red meat from farmer who strip the forests to run cattle to supply MD and BK etc. The stripping

of huge areas on the Asian and South American continents is also driving climate change…..look it up if you are unsure of this !! MUCH more than WE have been doing so far. When WE demonstrate that WE have power over his money (by not adding to his fortunes by giving him OUR money)….he will pay attention.

I really wish it was that simple.
Just stop burning fossil fuels.
Unfortunately it is not.
The burning of fossil fuels does not only create excess greenhouse gases but it also produces a lot of pollution. That pollution is what you see in smog.
It also blocks out a certain percentage of the Sunlight. That poisonous pollution is also helping us in the sense that we are not feeling the full effect of Global Warming.
If we just turn off the fossil fuel taps then you would feel the full heat of Global Warming in a matter of days.
This effect is known as Global Dimming.
After 9/11 scientists discovered that the daily temperature range across the entire USA went up 1.1°C or 2°F in just 3 days. That happened because the US grounded it's entire air fleet which makes up for 11% of the pollution over the USA. 75% of the pollution is caused by cars and trucks. The rest are caused by factories and other sources.
If we stop burning fossil fuels, the pollution will drop out of the atmosphere due to gravity and the world would warm up very quickly surpassing the so called '2°C safety limit'. Once that happens then we are truly fucked.
https://vimeo.com/284649348
You see, we waited too long to act and have essentially painted ourselves into the corner.
We are between a rock and a hard place.
We have to stop producing greenhouse gases that are warming up the Earth but if we stop burning fossil fuels then Global Dimming ends and the world will heat up even faster.
So it really isn't a simple solution.
We would need to mass produce carbon capture facilities but the amount we would need is so huge that it will take longer than 12 years to complete. Even if we could produce that much, we don't have the manpower to operate them all. We would need billions of these installations and there isn't enough people on the planet to man them.
The amount of carbon we would need to remove to make a difference would have to equal what we produce via the burning of fossil fuels plus what the ever increasing feedback loops produce such as the thawing permafrost and the growing number of forest fires. All life on this planet is carbon based. When trees burn it produces CO2.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1SgmFa0r04
We would have to remove over 120 billion tonnes of CO2 annually. One installation plant only removes a few thousand tonnes hence there isn't enough people to run them all. And you have to power them all as well. They would have to be place all over the Earth including on floating platforms or ships in all of the oceans.
In case you haven't noticed, we are now getting extreme weather events that are destroying our infrastructure. As fast as we build these installations, extreme weather events will be destroying them.
Global Warming is not some new process. The US government has known about it since 1847.
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/blog/2011/jun/20/george-perkins-marsh-climate-speech
Every US President has effectively swept the information under the Oval Rug. There have been some attempts to bring it to light such as President Lyndon Johnson's public statement in 1965.
https://worldhistoryproject.org/1965/us-president-lyndon-johnsons-science-advisory-committee-issues-report-on-global-warming
Much other than that no President has brought it to the public attention until President Obama did. And by that time it already was too late. The permafrost was already thawing.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFfuHmrW2gc&t
Donald Trump is only doing what he thinks is the right course of action. He has picked the dirtiest fossil fuels to burn, coal and bitumen and wants to expand on them. He wants to increase the pollution that masks out part of the Sunlight reaching the Earth. But in doing so he is releasing even more greenhouse gases. On top of all of that, the pollution is killing millions worldwide.
Stop the pollution and billions will die. Trump has picked the lesser of the two evils.
Just be thankful he hasn't caused a nuclear war yet. His belief is that a nuclear winter will cool the Earth down more.
Of course even that is not actually true. The lack of sunlight and the constant radioactive black rain would kill pretty much all surface life. Once the radioactive dust falls out of the skies, Global Warming would come back even stronger than before and kill anything that survived the nuclear winter.
Americans have to get Trump out of office. Because as long as he is in power, there is always going to be a chance that he will start a nuclear war.
I don't care how Americans do it but Trump has to be removed from a position of power.

"green energy" doesnt work – thats the problem
It is still in its development infancy
Its totally dellusional to think we can run the world on windmills

I am not defending these companies – but lets get a little bit realistic.
Its us that uses their product, thats what produces the co2.
They are not sitting in vast factories burning fossil fuels to pump into the air.
Yes they are making huge profits, but thats from us buying their products.
Stop shifting the blame……!
Why is it always "someone else" who is the bad guy.

This list of top polluters is pretty much completely useless. Of course big international energy companies, oil companies, etc. pollute more than small ones….simply on account of being big.

A far more sensible metric would be efficiency, i.e. show us the companies that pollute most for a given amount of output in product. That would allow us to boycott the right ones.

I thought this show was canceled? I wonder if Sarah never flies in planes or drives gas cars. I also bet there is not a single solar panel on her house. And what a bullshit fact to just pull out of your ass in the opening line. Show us the proof behind that line.

Poorest argument ever. Just citing 100 top oil companies in the world means nothing, since your SUV burns Exxon oil. So, you're the emitter.

The government will do something about climate change after the bodies start piling up in American streets.

97 percent of all life on earth? Where the heck did you suck that figure from?
We are in a grand solar minimum.
The trees are growing not dying. What proof do you have of any climate change? You mean what the News tells you?
I bet that you have the latest IPhone IPhone Mack book and you fly all over the place…. Hows your footprint???
