The Deadly Threat Of Denying Climate Change | Truth Told | Refinery29

By Micah Moen 96 Comments October 10, 2019

There are lots of scary things in life, but
nothing’s scarier than misinformation, especially when it comes to climate change. Now more than ever, climate change is a part
of our public discourse and will play a significant role in the 2020 Presidential election. But just Well, I’m glad you asked. According to the National Geographic, climate
change is the long term alteration of temperature and normal weather patterns. But since the mid-twentieth century, both
humans and technology alike have made it all a lot worse. But how? Well queue another phrase you may be very
familiar with: Global warming is the process of the earth’s
temperature rising due to the greenhouse effect. Climate change is the earth getting warmer. Well, it’s mainly the warming of the atmosphere
and that causes extreme changes in climate. We as the human race have put so much carbon
dioxide and other anthropogenic greenhouse gases in the atmosphere that it’s causing the
planet to warm. So yes that’s in some way or another, have made the earth’s atmosphere thick with greenhouse gases that
trap in the sun’s heat. Think carbon dioxide and methane. This is known as the greenhouse effect. You know, like that greenhouse place your
grandma grew all her tomatoes. It was always so, so hot in there. It’s this effect that makes the earth much,
much warmer. This all explains why we’re experiencing
longer, sweatier, blazing hot summers and finger freezing cold
winters, and why melting glaciers may force cute, cuddly polar bears out of their homes. And why rising sea levels mean islands in
the Pacific are disappearing, and why there’ll be longer, more catastrophic hurricane seasons. And, do I even really have to go on? Oh yeah, but there’s one more thing. Annual average temperatures across the U.S.
have risen by 1.8°F since the beginning of the 20th century. And they’re going to continue to rise. And as if all of that’s not frightening enough, a think tank
in Australia caused much chatter and alarm when it released a 2019 report describing
climate change as a near to mid term existential threat to human civilization. Basically saying that if we don’t address
ASAP, we’re in danger. of the world basically overheating
by 2050. I mean, what do you think would happen if
we don’t fix climate change? Well, already right now, a lot of people are
already feeling the effects of climate change. In Florida there is already flooding, there are already people that have been forced
out of their homes. And I also think we’re going to lose a lot
of the species that we know and love. The coral reefs aren’t going to be able
to survive once the ocean reaches a certain temperature, and that will probably happen
soon. But don’t despair just yet. Let’s dig in deeper. Who and what is causing climate change. You’ve probably heard about our dependence
on fossil fuels, like coal, oil and natural gas, that all contribute to the greenhouse
effect. But what’s this you hear about cows? And farting? Yeah you heard me right. Not only do cows and other two toned livestock
produce methane, but it turns out that these farts trap more heat and energy than carbon dioxide. Stop that steak order now. Okay, so I know that’s a lot to process,
but all hope is not lost. According to a report released by the United
Nations in 2014, there’s a 95% chance that humans have a direct impact on climate change. But hold up, is that a good thing or is that
a bad thing? Well, since I’m a glass half full kind of
woman, it seems to me that we humans still have a chance to do something
about this crisis. And that’s just what people like Al Gore,
Leonardo DiCaprio and super smart climatologists propose. I know what you’re thinking. Aren’t there people out there who just don’t
believe in climate change? Indeed there are. But the fact is, the U.S. is the of carbon dioxide While most Americans agree that climate change
is real, its impact has sparked heated debate. Pun intended. Mostly over how much of an impact humans really have. Even if you don’t subscribe to the idea
that if climate change isn’t addressed soon humanity will be threatened, there’s scientific
evidence to support the notion that we will experience its devastating effects. Extreme temperatures and drought are causing
migrant populations to swell, and some communities to lose stable access to food and water. Yeah, s**t just got real. Here are a few other suggestions of things
we can all do. The first, recycle. At home and out in public. If you’re unsure about what goes where,
don’t worry, I get confused all the time too. And you can reference the link at the bottom
of the video for some really helpful tips. Second, consider your food options. Eat locally and seasonally. Basically, choose foods that have a low carbon
footprint. The more food is flowing around the world on big cargo planes, the bigger
the carbon footprint. Farmer’s markets, my friends, are the future. Third, consider your transportation options. Take the public bus or a train. Buy a hybrid or electric car. Carpool, ride a bike, or just simply take
a walk. Fourth, support sustainable brands and substitute
single use products for reusable ones, like taking your own bags to the market. And lastly, thrift that wardrobe. In short, reduce consumption. Buy less. The less we use, the less we leave behind. And these are just a few ways that we can all make a difference. After all, the earth is our only home. So while we’re here, let’s try to make love, not emissions. I’m Brooke Hinton. Recycling is trash, most things are new plastic and the old plastic is barely recycled. Only 9% of plastic is recycled so the only way to beat that is to reduce the amount of plastic you use!!!!!!

Bullshit. https://www.ipcc.ch/sr15/ Even ipcc states that human impact is less than 6%. No one denies climate change (which was global warming a decade ago, but they had to change the name… says enough) but the critical thinkers do negate human impact. There are enough scientists that state co2 doesn't cause the climate to change and that it only makes our planet greener. Stop the propaganda! Meanwhile it's snowing in Australia.

Regarding recycling: it's bad. Real bad. We like to think we're helping, but only a fraction is truly recycled (also looking at you, H&M, whose recycling is more resource-intensive than producing new pieces). If you want to make a positive change, buy reuseable things and, if you can afford to, save up for fewer higher quality items that can be used/worn over long periods of time, and if not, sold or given away to others. We can't help this planet with our insane consumerism. Reuseable options are getting increasingly cheaper, it's not just "a trend" anymore. It's our mindset that has to change. That being said, it doesn't mean you need to get rid of all your plastic. A tupperware piece in use for many years is still more economically friendly than that tupperware piece thrown away to be replaced by something else (especially metal, which is resource-intensive to obtain, even if longlasting).

No offense, but individual level changes are not
going to solve anything. We have 10 years before we have emitted 1.5 degrees worth of greenhouse gasses.
We need large scale system change. Food systems, transportation, consumption, construction, energy, everything has to change. We need to put pressure on our democratic governments and other people with power.
Especially in the US, which has 5% of the world population and is responsible for 25% of emissions.
Join extinction rebellion or the sunrise movement, we need to do it together.

Let me make it simple CLIMATE CHANGE IS REAL and no I am not going to talk about the melting Glaciers, dying polar bears, etc etc but instead I will like to compare you to those people at Chernobyl who acted like nothing happened and their ignorance killed so many people and trust me i lived in Ukraine for 6 years and people are still living with the aftermath of the radiation so don't be a jerk like them accept the problem and make changes because we are already late at it.

And most importantly, push your government into taking action! We do need a change in our culture, for sure, but we need structural changes the most. Those gigantic multinational companies (like Shell and ExxonMobil for example) need to take responsibility and since we know that they won't do it on their own, we need laws regarding. We can help our farmers to swift from meat production and raising cattle to producing vegetables and taking care of fields and waters by helping them economically. We need to stop taxing healthy and sustainable foods and start taxing foods that harm our climate more. The list goes on. I do want to believe that we as people want to survive but honestly, the clock is ticking and people are resisting the change. We need governments on this.

Pressure companies/supermarkets to stop with the plastic that covers all the food like fruit/veg/meat and adjust your buying choices by choosing glass/paper/ etc packaging. Reduce the amount of red meat, buy locally. Pressure your council/MP to up their game. If EVERY single person each did something together a bigger change can be achieved. Brazil is one of the worst offenders for razing rain forest at the rate of a football pitch per minute. He doesn't believe in climate change either :/

If the US went completely off of carbon today the current estimates would not be delayed. China is the number one emitter by multiples. To put into perspective: the Chinese have now emitted more in the past 40 years than the US, Americas, Middle East, and Europe did since 1700.

I love that r29 is touching on this at all, and in an alternate manner (it’s cute with icons, not fear mongering!) HOWEVER, ❤️ there are some major issues with the recommendations at the end on what to do. And I honestly wish that more actionable steps were mentioned. 🦋 1. recycling at home and public really doesn’t matter like we think it does. Most items get sent to China or foreign countries on huge ships – more emissions, and in those foreign countries not all of the recycling is able to be processed. An alternate solution would be to use less plastic and actively avoid products that are packaged with plastic. ❤️ 2. Consider your food options. Very true, but it is saddening they didn’t mentioned going plant based, or even partially plant based can make a world of difference. To grow a crop of veggies let’s say it’s 9 gallons of water. To feed and grow a cow until she’s old enough for slaughter, it’s 120x the vegetables. 120×50 do the math. ❤️Additionally, buying in bulk can help cut down on plastic. Love the farmers market idea. ❤️ 3. Transportation options- Great idea, but would love some quick examples! If you’re in the market for a car, buy an electrical one if you’re able to recycle the batteries. Bike, take public transit, or use ride share options – they are cheaper than car ownership for most who commute anyways. 4. 🦋 Support sustainable brands – yes, but don’t use this as an excuse to buy a new wardrobe of green clothing. That defeats the purpose. Use what you have until it’s end, and if you need to buy new, buy responsibly. 💜 5. Thrift the wardrobe, excellent choice!!! Don’t forget swapping with others as well. I have tried Poshmark/resel apps in the past, but recommend against it – the amount of packaging and shipping that goes into that one thrift item seems to counteract the fact that I’m thrifting at all. I hope this counter logical list helps others- post your suggestions too. 🦋

The IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) statea the earth has warmed by 1 degree Celsius over the last 170 years since 1850. If you live to 80 you will experience half of that, 0.5C of warming over your entire life. Virtually every location on the planet experiences more change from the lowest temp at night to the warmest temp mid day. Many places around the planet experience a change of 100 degrees every year from the coldest days in winter to the warmest in summer. Yet you are trying to tell us, what we really need to worry about is 0.5C of warming over our entire lives? Did you know that plants need CO2 to live? Plant photosynthesis requires sunlight/water/CO2. Each human emits about 800 pounds of CO2 into the atmosphere each year simply by breathing. Did you know that only 4 out of every 10,000 molecules of atmosphere are CO2? Did you know that wheat, rice and other grains production has increased dramatically over the last 60 years due to the little extra CO2 in the atmosphere. Do you realize reducing CO2 will make our planet browner rather than greener ?

It’s minds boggling that there’s individuals that don’t believe climate change is real. We need to begin utilizing more natural renewable sources such as wind, solar, or electric energy. More importantly, we as a community need to discover methods of reducing pollution. You’d be surprised to learn that recycling materials is slightly more complicated and less environmentally friendly than you’d think, however, this doesn’t mean don’t recycle. Instead, we should be producing refillable containers easily accessible to consumers. Now, you might be thinking we can’t remove all non environmentally friendly items, which to an extent is true, such as plastic seals used in food or medical related items. Although, this does not negate that fact that society as a whole can reduce the amount of trash they leave within their existence.

The hoax (it can't be anything but a hoax) of "anthropogenic climate change" has been debunked. The public has been told for decades by the Left that the "sea levels are rising", yet there's no empirical evidence on the east coast that Miami and NYC are under water.
We've been told for decades that the polar ice caps are melting, but again there's no empirical evidence of that. We've been told for decades that CO2 (carbon dioxide) has increased drastically and that each summer is hotter than the summer before.

CO2 is still less than .4% (less than 1/2 of one percent by volume) of the atmosphere, yet we have to shut down all coal fired plants, never use fossil fuels and only drive electric cars. And only the U.S. needs to do that.

The public is swamped by horror stories of "climate change" but the public just ain't buying that drivel.

Globalist rhetoric related to "climate change" is a very long way from anything concerned with truth! The elites have in the past told us the world will end due to cooling, but now have abandoned that nonsense and are telling fairy stories about warming!

Not ONE of the thousands of climate related horror stories we have been told in the past has come true. Today the climate hoax seems more like a fundamental religious faith than anything else and is projected through slick PR operations and globalist funding of $$$$ billions.

If there was ANY truth in these tall tales, then why is it that the majority of the most heavily polluting western industrial manufacturing has relocated to places like China and India which have NO curbs on emissions?

If elites were forced to work towards zero Co2 emissions in their manufacturing plants, profits would be reduced substantially, so they relocate to China or India and its business as usual and profits are increased as labour costs are far less and there is no requirement whatever to adhere to any restrictions related to emissions or pollution.

The greenhouse gas theory is based on 19th century speculation that has never been proven by real-world evidence and testing. All our climate hysteria is based on contrived computer climate models fed incorrect assumptions handed down from one generation of scientists to another. None of the IPCC’s doomsday computer climate models have proven accurate, so scientists keep pushing back the date the world will come to an end as their predictions keep failing. Former NOAA climate scientist, Dr. Rex J. Fleming, stated that “there is no propensity for CO2 to store heat in a systematic way over time to produce a climate change effect.” Trying to make a greenhouse out of gas is like constructing a barbed-wire canoe. We are entering a period of Global Cooling. During the Maunder Minimum the sun radiated less heat. Wheat prices rose 400% in the UK.

But Dr Valentina Zarkhova has noticed that more significant than the slight global cooling is the reduction of the sun's magnetosphere.
This allows more cosmic rays (nuclear particles from distant decaying stars) to strike the earth. The New Madrid fault had a major quake
during the Maunder Minimum on 12-25-1699. During the Dalton Minimum, the New Madrid fault had 4 quakes on 3 days in 1811-1812.

Japanese scientists also noted an increase in the number of volcanoes during a Grand Solar Minimum. The likely cause of the increase in
both quakes and volcanoes is the increased number of cosmic rays energizing the earth.

A worse global disaster would be a massive volcano like the one in Indonesia in 1815 that caused a year without a summer. Enter this into Google "1816 Year without a summer".

If that happened today at least 3 billion people would die within 3 years.

We are entering the Eddy Grand Solar Minimum in 2019. Winter 2019-2020 will be harsh. The first of many to come. Also expect the reduced earth

magnetosphere to let the Jet Stream to wander about causing wild changes in weather patterns, floods in some areas and droughts in others. The increased number of cosmic rays striking the earth also increases the number of clouds which contributes to Global Cooling along with all of that sun blocking volcanic ash.

Food prices are already going higher. This coming winter will be exceptionally cold. Anyone running for office peddling Global Warming will be helping to re-elect Trump who is a dangerous Zionist. Vladimir Putin has been helping to protect the Christians of Syria. The US, the UK and Israel have been funding, arming and training Al Qaeda mercenary Jihadists. We paid them to gouge out the eyes of Christians and to behead them as well.

We need to start preparing for shorter growing seasons by building climate battery greenhouses and to start developing LED systems to raise food indoors in all that abandoned mall real estate space.

Hi
Thousands of data points on ice core surveys show 11 Ice Ages and Warming Periods in the last million years, just like this one.
EPA data shows that CO2 represents 81 % of the non-water-vapor greenhouse gas in the atmosphere, but it only cause 2.879% of the Warming.
Water Vapor, the vastly more abundant greenhouse gas has never been studied.
The famed Archaeologist S. R. Rao said the ancient ruins at Dwarka India had been submerged by sea-level rise of 10m in 3600 years… (that 2.8mm per year, and the current sea-level rise is 3.0 per year up from 1.0 at the end of the Little Ice Age.
Btw, that Little Ice Age was caused by Solar Activity, not greenhouse gasses.
The Medieval Warm period that preceded that Little Ice Age was actually 1 degree warmer than today’s climate, according to agricultural assessments by Fagan (2006).
And of course NOAA’s Climate at a Glance website shows the Average Temperature in the United States has barely climbed 0.96 degrees since 1918. The climate difference between your city, and the city 100 miles South.

But I’m the stupid one.
Because I’m not just parroting whatever comes out of the idiot box like an Orwellian sheep.
Baaa. Four legs good, two legs better! Baaa.

The historical data doesn’t support the current Climate Change hysteria, so two scientists are going back to change that data so it supports the fear-mongering. “find and correct those tiny errors and biases” in the NOAA database. Rewrite history.

Combine this with their proven history of falsifying the current data should ensure Climate Change reins supreme.

I just want to say thank you for making a very very important video. It's nice to see people do care.
We do have a chance. You dont have to believe it's happening, it's happening.
And the USA needs to get on board.

For just as the days of Noah were, so the presence of the Son of man will be. 38 For as they were in those days before the Flood, eating and drinking, men marrying and women being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and they took no note until the Flood came and swept them all away, so the presence of the Son of man will be.

According to the Vostok Ice Core Records, CO2 level changes have followed Earth's overall temperature changes at an 800 year lag for the last 800,000 years. That means that our current CO2 levels are the result of Earth's overall temperature 800 years ago. World leaders have convinced their dependents that this works in reverse, and that we are to blame, so that they can tax us out of a false shared guilt in order to be able to afford to fight climate change. Here is a link to the Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center website: https://cdiac.ess-dive.lbl.gov/trends/co2/vostok.html
