How to Play Minecraft Earth Beta (Gameplay Overview)

How to Play Minecraft Earth Beta (Gameplay Overview)

By Micah Moen 100 Comments September 11, 2019

Hey everybody. Welcome to OMGcraft. This is going to be a
very different episode than we normally record on OMGcrafts. Minecraft Earth has been released in closed beta, currently
it’s only available in a few cities. So I’ve made my way to Mexico City where Minecraft Earth is available. It’s currently not available
where I’m from Dallas, Texas. So we’re gonna play the heck out of Minecraft Earth as much as we can. (upbeat electronic music) So we’ve made our way
over to a nice park area to sort of walk around,
and before we get started into actually collecting
tapables and things like that, I wanted to just give you a general overview of the app
and what it looks like. So, starting off you obviously have a map that you can move around
with your finger or whatever. In the upper left hand corner you have an icon of your player skull, and if you click that it will give you more information about,
basically you as a player. So you have your skin and you can change your skin to any of the skins that you have purchased on the
Minecraft Marketplace. So I have a whole bunch
of different things, I’ve already purchased
on the market place. If, for some reason, I wanted to use maybe the stone stop running skin pack and then switch to a different
skin, I can select that. Apparently the name of that is Huxley, I can go ahead and hit select
and then now that’s my skin. You also have a few stats below your skin, which is what level you are,
where you are in experience, how much experience you need
to get to the next level. And then a few basic information, like how many blocks you’ve collected, how many you’ve placed
inside of a build plate, how many mobs you’ve collected and then, how long you have played
inside of a build plate. I haven’t really gotten into build plates that’s why I haven’t played. I have played for 0
seconds on build plates. So that was the top left hand corner. Then the top right hand
corner is just that compass and all that does is lock your
perspective to the direction that you are pointing your phone. So as you rotate your
phone your perspective will also rotate accordingly. So it can kinda help you and like, okay I see something over there, which way do I need to point
in order to walk to go get it? And I’m just gonna unselect that because you kinda move around crazy
when you’re just standing still. On the bottom starting
on the left hand side you have a chest. This is all of the things
you have collected so far, you collect this items
by clicking on tapables. And I’ll just exit out
of here just so you can see all these little things around me that you can see like the chest, this little thing of blocks, the trees, the mobs, those are all tapables. I’ll go ahead and do an example right here with this little outcropping
of blocks is within my circle that I can actually select so I’ll go ahead and select that. You can see that it kinda
zooms in on my screen, and then you just tap this
a whole bunch of times to sorta break it, so one, two, three. And you can see it’s
almost about ready to break just a few more taps and
then it kind of explodes and you get whatever is included. You also saw that two of them
had a classification of rare, so there’s some items that
are more rare than others. This chest is also in there so I’m gonna go ahead and click this chest. Tap it a whole bunch of times, it will open up and it looks like I’ve got some uncommon glass, and an epically rare, red stone repeater. Whatever number is
associated with what pops up right after you hit the tapable, is how ever many of that
item that you will get. So, you see I only have
say like three fences. I have one white wool and one yellow wool. So if I was to go into building later on that is the only blocks
that I have of that type. So you have items along the
top, you also have mobs. So I have a whole bunch of mobs actually. Switch back to items you can
also sort this by its rarity, so you can see the color around surrounding the block is talking about how rare that block is. It looks like TNT is also epically rare. And then you can also
sort by alphabetically, if you have a block you wanna find, and I found quantity was quite simple because the less rare
blocks are near the top and the ones that you’re
gonna use all the time. The next category is build plates. We’re gonna get into this
in just a little while. So I’m not gonna cover this right now. Next is crafting and that’s
not built into the app yet. Next to that is sort of your
friends and extra settings, so you can join friends and then it will start a mode that sorta
starts augmented reality. You can see these little
dots along the ground for some reason and it’s
looking for a QR code. That I haven’t played
around with a whole bunch. You also have settings in here so you can change around all
of your settings as well. Finally the last option on
the very right hand side is the store. Throughout the game you’ll
collect these rubies, these gems right here. And you can spend those rubies
to get larger build plates and it looks like just
based of the UI here the build plates also
include a few blocks as well. They may include all the blocks
that are in the build plate, but you can see that sort
of associated next to, or inside the square here for that store. So that is sort of a
general overview of the app and what everything looks
like, how everything behaves. So we’re gonna go around
and start collecting things through the tapables that
are just on the ground. So we’ll need to walk
over there and get them. (upbeat electronic music) So as you’re walking around
one thing I wanna mention is that as a tapable
comes into your circle, which is basically the
reach that your player has or that you have in order
to tap any of these. Whenever something new enters that circle your phone does vibrate a little bit, which is a really nice indicator that something else has happened. That there’s something for you to tap on. So you can almost absentmindedly
keep you phone in your hand and then you’ll notice
that something pops in, and then you can tap it. Okay, there is a chest on that corner. Where there’s like two more
things, two more blocks of grass and stuff this way, so
we’re gonna head this way. One thing I do wanna mention is you have to collect a lot of stuff. Like I’m level 3 and I’ve been collecting for a little while I’d say. You have to collect a lot of stuff in order to be able to feel
like you could build something. That’s like what you could normally build within five minutes in normal Minecraft. Grass, a rose bush, and gravel, hurray. I wonder if my character
would like get into a boat, if I was to walk into the
water area on the map. Oh, another sheep. I gave up on the chest,
the chest is no more. I’m not getting the chest,
it’s too far that way. Now we’re gonna play around
with build plates a little bit, build plates are where you
can actually take the blocks that you’ve been collecting
through all the tapables, and actually place them into a build. So I’m gonna click on
the build plates thing and it shows me build plates that I have. And as a low level character
I only have one at the moment. You can see that there’s
two options, build and play. In the play mode you can play
around, interact with things, if there’s TNT in the
build you can blow it up. And then it won’t matter
because that isn’t saved. But in build mode everything is saved it’s just like a normal Minecraft world where you’re building, you’re
placing, you’re taking up, you’re putting down, that sort of stuff. So, I’m just gonna first click play just to interact with
this build that’s already kinda been prebuilt for
us to play around with. And this will be placed into
the world in real world scale. So on my screen I can see a little preview of where this build is going
to be placed in the world, so I’ll just go ahead and place it. And now I can see on my phone
a preview of what this is, and I can go and interact with it. So there’s a few buttons, one is just this like finger button so I can interact with
stuff, I can click things, and there’s not really anything
to interact with right now. The other one is punch mode. So all the chickens ran off, let me go find a chicken and punch it. So in punch mode I can
actually punch blocks too, so I can punch out like this dirt here, I can punch the chicken. oh, I missed him. Punch! And then I can click those
items to pick them up. And so you can see sort of my, all my items that I have down
here in my normal hotbar. So I can switch over to
dirt, close this out. Let’s go to interact mode, use this dirt. I can place dirt on the ground, it looks like you don’t need
to be in either of those modes you’re just in place mode There we go I’m out of dirt,
I can place some azure stuff. So because I’m in play mode only I can exit out this and none of this is going to be saved. So I’m gonna go ahead and
click the three dots there at the top and then I’m
gonna go back to map, yup. Now I’m back in the normal game so I’m gonna go ahead an place this down, and I’m actually gonna build something like my creation using all of my blocks. Whenever you’re in build mode
you can use all of your blocks in play mode you only use the blocks, that are given to you in that map. Okay, so I just placed down my build and for some reason it is like itty bitty compared to what we were
playing with before. Hey this is Chad, from
editing after the fact. It makes a lot of sense actually that in build mode your
build is a lot smaller than when you’re in play mode. Because in build mode you wanna be able to easily reach across your
build, place blocks, pick up blocks and move things around. And it would be really annoying
if this is all life size. You want it to be smaller so
that you can just reach over and build within your build. This also makes it easy to
build the things indoors, and can find spaces so you
can do this on a table top, you can get your friends involved by having them just
kind of hang around you, instead of need to move around you if it was full life
size, like in play mode. I’m also gonna pick up the egg, okay now I’m gonna fill in that hole. Oh, dang it, no, place. Don’t pick up, there we go, okay. Fill in that hole. Now we’re gonna make the
worst house you had ever seen. Okay, I’m gonna place this log here. And place this log here, and this log here. Ah, I missed! Okay we’re gonna go back to pick up mode, pick up that log, come back to me. There we go. Okay, what should I use for the walls? I have three fence, okay we’re
just gonna make a couple. I only have three stairs, you can see why I really
would wanna collect a whole bunch of more stuff. Okay, we’re gonna zoom in here. Let’s go back to, oh, yeah, okay. No dang it, I only have dirt, one second. We switched to cobble. I’ll place my cobble. You can see why that
you would wanna do this just on a normal table or table top, or like indoors or something. And then you would wanna like
actually interact with it and play with it, when
you’re not in this situation. I’m gonna use some of my normal stone. Oops, I placed that wrong. Okay glass right there and then we’re gonna finish it up. This is the worst looking build ever but inside of this we’re
gonna place my chickens. Chickens you’re just gonna live inside of this sad little house. How many chickens do I have in there? I have six chickens, there
are six chickens inside. There they go, and they’re
all gonna live in there. There’s some chickens on the
outside they’re just laughing. Okay so now I’m gonna save this world, and then we can interact
with it in big mode. Okay so here this is what I just built, and I can kinda like walk
into it, in a weird way. So I’m gonna go into punch mode. I can’t get up there, I need to jump. My chicken should be in
there but I can’t really see, are they? Can I walk through this block? Oh there they are! Oh hi, oh I can punch you. Wait, I gotta get closer. Punch. Punch, punch, punch punch, punch, punch. Punch, punch, punch. This is my death chamber. Okay now we’ve killed them all. Remember this is just the play mode, so I can play as much as I want. Oh, I’m gonna punch off thess blocks too. Let’s see, oh, I’m sorry chicken, punch up this log, oh my gosh
it’s taking a little while. Let me punch this stone, do I need a pick? Oh my gosh, I might need a pick for this. So I can kind of imagine that
playing around like this, this is an awful lot
with what the adventures would be like. Just obviously a lot better
made than how I’ve made it. Oh lets pick up some
chicken from the ground, and let’s pick up this. So that is a look at Minecraft Earth. So we’re back in the United States, I realized I didn’t really
do a very good outro so I’m doing the outro now. One thing to mention
that I have to mention is that Minecraft Earth is in beta. So everything you’ve seen is
the beta version of the game, things could change. If you ever, if you thought
like maybe the frame rate was a little bit low at some moments, maybe they can develop that to be better. We have no idea what they’re
gonna develop in the future, so everything you’ve seen is in beta. So don’t take it quite
as literally as it looks, because they may update it to be a whole bunch better in the future. I do wanna say big thank you to you guys for watching so far, all
the way through the video. I really felt strongly that this video needed to be made for YouTube, because from me watching
the videos that other people had published about Minecraft Earth. I really didn’t see the
type of video that I wanted, which is a very general overview and kinda every aspect
in detail of the app. So I hope that that’s what
you’ve gotten from this video, because that’s what I was
hoping to make from it. Obviously was a lot of work to go to another country to record. Everything like that, so, I hope that you enjoyed
what this video has become and thank you so much for watching it. Leave a comment down below, letting me know what you
thought of Minecraft Earth. Where you feel like it
could use some improvement and also your thoughts on this video. Really would like to know that
in the comments down below. And specifically is this like a type of. Do you guys want to see more Minecraft Earth content on this channel? I really wanna know that
from the comments below, so I’ll be reading those later. Also thank you so much for watching. If you like the video please
give it a big old thumbs up, also make sure you
subscribe for future videos, tips, tricks, tutorials and spotlights, here on OMGcraft.
See you next time, bye!

So when you were building and there were two different perspectives, was that being filmed with two separate phones? Would we, for example, be able to watch on our own screen if a friend is building something on theirs? Because if so, that's a pretty sweet feature!

I got a MUCH better idea of the game play thanks to this video. I actually went ahead and pre-registered for the game and I'm looking forward to it. As you said, it's in beta so I'll definitely wait until I get to play before I comment on it lol

Is it fun or not really. Looks kinda corny honestly. You only get an 8by8 build plate and only when you level up can you get bigger build plates. But there are tap ables. But looks like it gives you things you don’t need like a flower. Really a flower that’s corny. And what can you build. Not a sky scrapper. Like the real Minecraft. IDK looks like it might be boring. Maybe I’d just have to play it and see. Seems like it’s going to be like Pokémon. Or ingress. But ingress is actually fun
