Bernie's kinda right about Castro, in a way. Many people didn't oppose communism because they were part of the special elite class that benefited from it. They wouldn't oppose it even if it means persecuting a minority. Sanders is right to point out the accomplishments of socialists/communist governments, because those accomplishments were only possible because of slavery, theft, and persecution.

I like your take on the bullying video, but consider maybe taking his name off of the video title? If we're really concerned about this being the main thing showing up in search results every time his name gets googled, perhaps you shouldn't add to that.

"Bullying" is just a consequence of living in a community. Animals do it too. We pick on the weak to feel powerful. My question is where are the teachers?! Why aren't the bullies getting counseling too? Why doesn't the mom pull her son from school?

Quaden's mom probably comforted her kid countless times without video, it's clear she was making a plea to stop raising pieces of shit that bully innocent kids. People will complain and judge everyone for everything anymore.

I think the mother's actions were fair, considering that the way a lot of things were said insinuated that this is a very regular occurance. Giving the benefit of the doubt, I'm sure as a loving mother, she's tried to take alternative measures to this to have things repaired. I highly doubt she had any expectation for the video to go viral by just posting it on her personal Facebook, so the exploitation argument just really doesnt feel valid. We (the internet) have exploited him, not the mother.

I'd like to just point out about Florida and Bernie… most of the Cubans in Florida will never vote for Bernie. In the words of my in-laws "they are all socialists and socialism leads to communism!"
This is not to say that many did not vote for Democrats prior to this last presidential election, but they have been a bit brain washed and they will stay as far away from anything they perceive will bring them back into the grips of communism.
For better or worse… just some facts.

I started that conversation with my 2 year old because she was constantly taking toys from and pushing her little brother (who she absolutely loves but shes 2 and life is hard). We have discussed that those are bullying behaviors (being careful to never call our child a bully but saying you are acting like a bully). She is learning to recognize what being a bully looks like and often will tell her mom or i that we are bullying her often leading to more conversations about bullying vs discipline (sometimes she's right and we have to apologize). Never too young to start the conversation (any conversation) as long as you use age appropriate language without watering down the concepts. I just hope my children grow up to display compassion and kindness to all and are confident enough to stand up for other kids if bullying is somehow still a thing when they are school age.

The kids who do the bullying AND kids most likely to be bullied are kids who are being abused in other ways. Stopping bullying will not happen until we stop the abuse going on in these kids' homes. Children learn to be victims (through learned helplessness) in exactly the same way as they learn to be perpetrators.

I would like to add so many things to the piece about Chile. Like the 400+ eye injuries caused by police violence (mainly fire power) or about the Viña festival, where there has been censorship…people were not allowed to bring their own posters, when the public were singing or shouting things against the government the tv would mute the sound or replace it with recordings. Human rights are being violated in Chile in a systematic way…and nobody is doing anything about it. Polititians don't really care, that is why we want a new constitution made by the people…

Sure it's a public story but when he googles his name, he will see it plastered all over this video. Sure, report the story, but keep kids out of the thumbnail of a story about exploiting children

I don’t think bullying is a bad thing perse, you just can’t go around bullying people who don’t deserve it; it’s heartbreaking to see a kid being bullied so badly it’s hurting him, no the people who should be bullied are the bullies picking on this kid!

Here in the Netherlands they found something really smart. In the beginning of every year the teacher selects the baddest motherfucker in the class to be the antibully. The reward for a whole month without bullying is 20 euro's. The only difficult thing is to appoint a kid that understands that his only role is to maintain a bully free envoirment and nothing else. At my school it worked like magic.

Kids that bully learn it from their parents and adults in their lives and from whatever role models they’re allowed to have from the media (internet, music, movies)
Teach your kids how to be decent and show them how to he decent and pay attention to what else they’re exposed to. Kids are sponges, they soak up whats around them.

First it seems like the internet did its own form of bullying. As for association later in life? How do we know ten years from now? We just finally am seeing the product of the me too movement come to a pinnacle with the Weinstein case. If those women were worried about their children and the future selves then we would not have the strength to speak up and own our stories. How do we know that this young soul doesn't use it for the betterment of other lives and his very own life. I support him and the go fund me is amazing. Did anyone feel obligated to give? I totally see why people would feel uncomfortable with the idea of the mother just filming her son, because it's definitely not in the best interest of the kid short term. That being said, I do recommend thinking long term. There's only so much a hug, a kiss and comforting can do. My guess is that this mother has had countless experiences post after school, eventually hugs stop meaning as much because while it makes her son feel better immediately, it does nothing to stop the fact that he IS being bullied and will CONTINUE to be unless something (long term) changes. To me, it feels like this was the mother's last attempt to do something, she's capturing the real horror of bullying. I would also bet money that there were lots of hugs, kisses and comforting that happened after the camera stopped rolling. I wouldn't say I completely support what the mom did, again it's a very fine line, but I do understand why she did it

For the ppl that are tryna to bash Quaden and his mom they need to get it together. The mother obviously tried to comfort her child time and time again. Her recording was to try to show the rest of the world what she sees everyday. Also, he shouldn’t be ashamed of this footage of him when he grows up. Mental illness is not shameful. If anything, it’s the rest of YALL making it shameful by telling him “you don’t want your business out there like this”. We can prevent suicide if we openly talk about our experiences and show that there is NO SHAME in it.

I was in a same dark mindset when I was bullied, worst moment was having rocks thrown at me and cutting my face with lots of bleeding, if I saw someone recorded that and ot was on YouTube; I would have been fine with that if it was used to show that something has to be done about bullying, humans dont care till they see the damage in action and videos like that make it farther than a local letter to parents about the aftermath.

If your kids are getting bullied please switch them to an alternative school. Obviously not every place has them but it changed my life. I wish my parents did this earlier.
there's less kids so less chance of bullying and I just did so much better in school. You dont have to put your kids through torture 8 hours a day for 12 years . It's detrimental to a Persons life.

Hello Philip,

Today I come with good news. I have decided that if I can still watch people who bullied away my favorite youtuber, I can watch Philip Defranco. If you slip up, I will call you out. If you make a bad decision I will call you out. If your words don't align with what you say you believe, I will call you out. This video is a stop for me to let you know you get a sub back. But I will hound you for making mistakes. I want you to be what I hoped you were, what you said you were back in the days. An honest but unbiased reporter of the news. We can chat about that if you want but you'll probably dismiss me as I have controversial opinions and talk about it in a way that people deem, "disagreeable" whatever that means. Anyway I'll be seeing you.

My bosses 9 year old has been threatened with suspension multiple times. Because he beats bullies up. This is a child that has taken home the schools leadership award for his grade every single year since kindergarten He's told the principle "I'll do it everytime I see it, nobody is trying to stop it" so this kid literally beats the same schoolyard bully every few weeks. The bully has never once been suspended, even with a teacher witnessing the bullying from across the yard and then the beating as she tried to make her way over to stop the bully herself. The system is flawed in all countries. Anti bullying campaigns don't work. Growing up I was there same way, I learned that most peers are cowards and won't speak up, the schools won't do anything unless a bully all of a sudden says "I did it and I enjoyed it" so really an iron fist seems to be the only way bullies can be handled unless there will be clear and unquestionable repercussions to prevent and end a bully.

I'm always skeptical when it comes to viral videos of anybody crying about something. There's usually a motive behind it somewhere. My son was bullied but you won't find a video online of him crying…because as a mother my first priority was on taking care of my son, not making a viral video. Plus, the majority of these videos end up with a ton of free gifts and money and trips, etc. What else has this mother done to prevent bullying other than exploit her kid? Nothing.

I'm wondering about the boy in the first video…or rather, his mother. I am rather neutral when it comes to recording and sharing it, but in that video, he yells at her and tells her she does nothing. The fact that she was recording and still "doing nothing", like just holding him, bugs me. My daughter had a breakdown like this, saying she wanted to kill herself, after someone in her school grabbed her by the throat. I was right at her side the whole time, and immediately after, on the phone with a therapist to help her better than I ever could.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but I'm just baffled as to why her first reaction was to pick up her phone and not help him, or at least help him in a way he needed in that moment.

Guess i'll throw in a stick of an opinion. The footage of that kid breaking down should not have been put up for the world to watch, that is a problem within their school, if possible needed to escalate to a government case. It could've been reported to the school itself, it could have been displayed somewhere locally. Posting this online exposes this kids torment and the woman's desperation to the scrutiny of the world, some will be sensitive but there is a percentage of the world that will turn this around into a completely different story and even commit further abuse to the mother because of how it makes her look. This footage should not be public.

Castro really did some great things in Cuba. Free education and healthcare despite being embargoed by the entire world (because of the USA) since their communist revolution. Considering the opposition they faced regarding the ideology that was legitimately installed, the fact they have survived and thrived is a tribut to Castro's policies.

I was bullied as a kid. Mom was way overprotective, father was detached, and it never prepared me for interactions with others, plus I had a poor diet which led to poor physical health and bad mood. You’re peers can be brutal when you’re all pushed together to navigate hierarchical social systems.
I had shittt behavior patterns and poor socialization, and when I overcame these defects of character things changed. I could be wrong but personally I think the job of a parent is to teach and nurture your kids strength of character- and directly intervene if ever there are signs of it becoming physical or abusive. I don’t think filming your kid crying and preaching to the internet is a healthy example for their future. Tragic story

I’m sorry if anyone is misinformed but Cubans are not doing that well. My mom has been in cuba many times because she is marrying a cuban man. There is a huge difference between the places America sees and the places about 2 out of 3 million of those people actually live like. My mom just happened to fall in love with a poorer man but she even saw the “better” living folks still having struggles with basic needs such as soap. There are lines for everything basic. Literal lines of people waiting to get one bar of soap for their entire family and there are fights that break out.

OVER SOME SOAP!!!

But the health care is actually good so they got that going for them. Some say they love the country and others dont say anything in fear of the government’s wrath.

That poor little guy…I remember being bullied for being fat when I was a kid. I don't remember but my mom says I would come home crying sometimes. As I got older I realised most of the bullying can be counteracted by laughing along with the joke and then making a joke back. One that was just as personal and shocking which was usually met with laughter. Now I'm a confident adult with lots of friends and look back on dealing with assholes as something that made me a better, stronger person. I really think a lot of the "bullying" I experienced as a kid was misinterpreted by me to be malicious in nature when really it was more about the person saying it than it was about me.

I hope things get better for him and that he finds the strength to power through and be stronger for it! Good luck kid I'm rooting for you.

The Chile riots and issues sound like a normal Tuesday in South Africa. Yet the world is ignorantly and silently ignoring it… eventhough we have experienced a 500% increase in electricity costs since 2002. Our food, water and fuel is insanely expensive. Our government is corrupt to its core and we sit with load shedding (planned 2 to 4 hour power cuts for up to 4 times a day) due to over staffing, monopolizing, corruption and mismanagement by the government owned power utility. Ow ow ow and Eskom the government owned power utility wants the customers to pay for their mismanagement and corruption by increasing our electricity prices even more. Thousands of families get murdered daily and theft and unemployment is at an all high.

Later on people didn't rise because of other reasons, but IN THE MOMENT BERNIE WAS TALKING ABOUT, he was right.
And also, he just said that healthcare is good even if communists do it, regardless of all the other bad things they can do. Hardly controversial.

RE Quaden, Those who think the mum should have comforted her son instead of filming him apparently cannot imagine how many times this must have already happened, how many times she had – in vain – tried many different ways to comfort him and help him deal with this. While I don't think posting the video was helpful to him now or in the future, I can understand her impulse to do *something*, ANYTHING rather than simple once again watch her desperate 9 year old son weep and speak of killing himself while she could do nothing but weep with him. The only good thing about the idea of his classmates watching the video is that hopefully they will finally see the damage they are doing to this kid and stop. I'm sure the mum has realized that her initial impulse will do him more harm than good, and that would be the reason she has walked away from social media, not that she's trying to hide something. Really? Are we that cynical now? Yes, people do scam the world through social media, but if I'm going to misjudge someone I'd rather think a scammer is for real than think someone is a scammer when they are really suffering. I'll err on the side of kindness and compassion.

Yes, this video will follow him for the rest of his life. In a world where pre-existing conditions affect our physical and mental healthcare, the existence of this video might actually keep Quaden from receiving healthcare he may need in the future. And unfortunately there is no way to undo it, to remove this permanently from the world consciousness. One can only hope that whatever detriment it causes, it may also have a positive effect in raising awareness that bullying not only hurts, it kills.

For me, I will endeavor to forget Quaden's name, but not his pain. I hope the bullying stops, that he recovers and finds some joy in his life. I hope he understands that his mum meant well and that her goal was to stop his pain. I hope that what he takes from this is the message that people do care and that this is what sticks with him, not those who cynically judged him a hoax and a scammer. I hope that he, like me, chooses to concentrate on the kindness and compassion that exists in the world, not the hate.

In regards to the Bernie "controversy" about Castro: Yes he was complete piece of shit that did a whole lot of terrible things. But even the biggest asshole can do one or two good things. People want to pick and chose the information they base their beliefs on all the time. Look at the Christian Bible as one example. A whole lot of terrible shit in that piece of fiction, but people love to cherry pick the cute things from it and ignore the rest. Castro did a good thing, but that obviously doesn't excuse him from all the terrible shit he did.

s pure and raw emotions of those times. I am diagnosed with depression and have tried to kill myself before. It's really hard for people who don't have depression or have experienced enough torment to have your brain constantly wishing you were dead to understand how it feels. The things that Quaden said really show the scale of how bullying affects these children. It's important for people to see.

Here’s the thing. How many times did this mom have to see her son break down. Eventually enough is enough and your out of avenues. If the purpose is to show the wrong, get kids to be nicer, then when he looks at this in the future and it makes that big of a difference then it’s no longer looked at his past “fame” of this incident. I’m thinking as a former bullied and a mom and I hear a mother overwhelmed and lost on what she can do, showing that raw it puts perspective. It’s not just kids being kids anymore it’s hurting mentally and that is long lasting!
